RULES

Stay in character. This one should be fairly self-explanatory. Character development is encouraged over the course of the game, but do try to make it realistic! The Joker isn't going to be fluffy cuddles and bunnies, repenting of his evil doings two weeks after being teleported into Sweven.

Stay active. Activity check is held from the first to the seventh of every month. To pass you need two of any of the following: a post in the logs comm, a post in the network comm, or a comment thread on a network post with no less than fifteen replies. (That means eight comments from you on someone else's post.) If a character is accepted after the fifteenth of the month, they're exempt from activity. If a player goes on hiatus for ten days or more during a month, they are also exempt from activity. If a character hasn't commented to the activity check by the seventh of the month, they're automatically dropped from the game.

Stay respectful. We hold no illusions that everyone is going to get along with everyone else 100% of the time. However! We ask that you always remain respectful and civil to your fellow players. If you're really having trouble with someone else, please get in contact with a mod and we will be more than happy to talk with both players in question to see if we can work things out.

The current character limit is three. This is because it's a new game and we don't want to end up with 20 characters played by three people. As the game grows, the character limit will as well.

No god-modding or info-modding. Don't take control of someone else's character without their permission, whether blatantly or by writing a tag in such a way that forces their character into only one kind of response. Doing so makes it impossible for everyone to follow rule #1. Info-modding is when your character knows something they shouldn't, such as what goes on in logs they aren't a part of, plot points that haven't been revealed, or things behind encryptions that they don't have permission to hack, and it's not very polite.

No fourth-walling without player consent. As the game takes place on an alternate Earth, any canons that characters come from will not have existed on the Earth that Sweven exists on. However, there are some characters who make pop-culture references all the time and we want them to be able to keep doing that. We also recognize that some people aren't okay with their characters knowing they're fictional in other worlds, so before you do any kind of fourth-walling, run it by the player first to make sure they're okay with it.

Warn for triggering material and put it behind a cut if possible. This rule cannot be emphasized enough. We're very, very aware that some characters have tragic pasts in which there are things like abuse, and we're also aware that things can get graphically violent at times. Especially in a setting in which characters are sharing dreams and nightmares, these things coming up is a possibility, but we don't want to cause emotional distress to anyone, so you need to put warnings on your logs, on your posts, and in your subject line for comments if there is anything that you think could be even remotely triggering.

Sex happens. Not everyone wants to see it. So put a warning on your logs if there is sex happening, or in a subject line if it happens in an action-spam thread in the network comm. If things take a turn for the sexy in someone else's post, please take it elsewhere. Also, there will be no writing out of sexy-times with players under the age of 18, same for characters. We're aware that the age of consent is different in various countries and states, but we want to keep this as legal as possible. Yes, teenagers have sex and you can imply that your teenaged character is having sex, just don't post it on the comms.

IC does not equal OOC. Just because someone plays a character who is a dick does not mean that they themselves are a dick. Along the same lines, if you don't like a person OOCly, don't have your character take it out on theirs ICly.

IC actions equal IC consequences. We are more than okay with consequences taking some time to take effect. Obviously, if someone kills another character and then runs, it's going to take time to hunt them down. But every action has consequences and if you are constantly trying to get your character out of having any consequences at all, that's not fair to your other players.

The game works in real time. So one day OOC is equal to one day IC.

Give notice for plots. If you're running a plot, give at least two day's notice on the OOC comm before it happens. This is so other players can plan accordingly and it all gives time for sign-ups and the like.

Three strikes and you're out. We'll give you two warnings when there is significant rule-breakage. The third warning will be your boot from the community. We don't want to have to ban anyone, but if things get out of hand, we will.

HAVE FUN. This is the most important rule, guys. We're pretending to be fictional characters on the internet. Don't take yourselves too seriously.
